Our Reading Buddies are pupils from Years 3 to 6 who take on the rewarding role of supporting younger children with their reading. At lunchtime, they meet with their reading partners to read together on a one-to-one basis, helping to build confidence, fluency, and a love of books.

Through regular reading sessions, Reading Buddies provide encouragement, model expressive and fluent reading, and help younger pupils develop key skills such as decoding, comprehension, and understanding of texts. Their support creates a calm and positive reading experience, where children feel supported and motivated to improve.

Reading Buddies also act as excellent role models, demonstrating enthusiasm for reading and showing patience, kindness, and responsibility. We are very proud of our Reading Buddies, whose commitment helps to strengthen reading across the school and foster a culture where reading is valued and enjoyed by all.
