Year 6 Terms 3 and 4

Dear Parents,

Please find attached a summary of the main learning areas this term and below are some reminders for you. Our cross-curricular topic this term will be “From Madagascar to Morocco”, a study of the interdependence and of plants and animals and how they adapt to their habitats.  This is a science based topic which will involve research, fieldwork and other cross-curricular links.

Homework
There will be an extended piece of home learning relating to the topic. Further details have been given to your child.  It should be completed by March 21st.

Maths homework will be given most weeks in addition to this.

It is recommended that you find other opportunities for children to learn at home.  Calculating change on shopping trips or working out discounts could be a useful idea.  During term four we will give the children revision books and talk to them about how often they should be revising.

P.E
Indoor PE – Tuesday (6B) Wednesday (6P)
Outdoor PE – Monday  - both classes

Please ensure that your children have the appropriate clothing in school for these lessons and outdoor footwear suitable for the sports court.  They should consider a track suit or something similar to wear over their normal P.E. clothes in the winter months.  If your child is unable to take part in a P.E. lesson for any medical reason, a note will be required or they will be expected to participate.

Trip
Due to the financial burden of paying for camp, year six does not undertake a trip in the spring term.  Please remember to make final payments for camp by the end of March. There will be an information evening for Y6 parents on Wednesday 21st March at 7pm in the main hall. Information will include practical arrangements for SATS and Camp and an outline of Sex and Relationships Education.

SATS
SATS will take place the week of the 14th May.  It is important that we get the right balance between preparing the children for SATs and ensuring that they have a varied and interesting curriculum.  The children have completed practice papers in each subject (maths, reading and writing) in December.  We have shared the results privately so that they know how they are progressing and these will be shared with you at parents evening in February. We strive very hard to ensure this process does not pressurise the children.

If you have any queries about any of the above, please contact one of us.
