Year 1

Welcome to Year One. Miss Ransom is the class teacher in SEAL class and Mrs Fletcher is the SEAHORSE class teacher. Mrs Curtain works with both classes and Mrs Harris takes both classes for ICT lessons.

Outdoor P.E. for both classes is on Wednesday afternoon and indoor P.E. is on Friday afternoons. Please make sure all children are appropriately dressed for these sessions and that long hair is tied back on these days.

Our reading books are changed on Mondays and Fridays, however, all children should have there reading books and reading records in class every day.

We have introduced Guided Reading into our weekly timetable.  All children will have the opportunity to read with the class teacher every week and during the other sessions will undertake independent reading based activities. 

Phonics books should be returned to class on Thursday and will be given out again on Friday with details of the new sounds learned during that week.

Our topic for term 5 is Who are we? Where are we? and for term 6 it will be Let's set sail!

Our Science focus will be Growth, and the children will be growing their own beanstalks and investigating what plants need to grow.   In Geography we will be exploring the local area and creating our own maps.  We will also be looking at the art work of Andy Goldsworthy,

In History we will be comparing modes of transport from throughout the ages, learning about the achievements of Brunel and visiting the ss Great Britain.

We will also be taking part in activities to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee and the Olympics.
